Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander surprised 20 children from the Boys & Girls Club of Oklahoma County with a shopping spree at Converse.

On Sunday, Gilgeous-Alexander helped each child shop the store for $500 worth of gear. The event included a photo booth, a live DJ and more to provide holiday fun.

“Just wanted to give back to the community, give the kids a good Christmas experience,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “Christmas is a very joyful time of the year; it was for me at least growing up. I just wanted to make sure they had the same feeling that I did because it meant so much to me.”

The event is part of the Thunder’s 17th season of Holiday Assist, which consists of more than two dozen events throughout the holidays to brighten the spirits of hundreds of Oklahomans.

“This is something that he asked to do to help make sure that some of our kids had a merry Christmas,” said Teena Belcik, the president and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Oklahoma County. “These are some of our kids who have been working extra hard in school, in leadership activities and just really setting good examples. And it’s a great reward for them.”
